Cooking for a Cause with Cookbook Author, Susheela Raghavan
Join cookbook author, Susheela Raghavan in a private, cooking demonstration and meal at her home to raise awareness and funds in support of young victims of sex trafficking in Cambodia. This cooking demonstration will feature recipes from Susheela’s Malaysian cookbook, entitled, Flavors of Malaysia: A Journey through Time, Tastes, and Traditions. Susheelawill also discuss the use and benefits of spices in Asian cooking (author of Handbook of Spices, Seasonings and Flavorings, 2nd edn, a reference book for Universities, and food and nutrition professionals). A short clip of the Somaly Mam Foundation’s work with victims of sex trafficking in Cambodia (which is part of NYT journalist Nicholas Kristof’s ground-breaking documentary “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,” recently aired on PBS) will also be shown at the start of the cooking demonstration.
Menu: Sambal chicken (fragrant tomato and mildly spicy chile based chicken), lime rice, stir fried green beans and carrots, and dhal curry. A beverage and dessert will be included with the meal.

Cost: $145 per person, which includes a signed, discounted copy of Susheela’s cookbook, Flavors of Malaysia. Susheela will donate 80% of the proceeds directly to The Somaly Mam Foundation which provides aid and support to the young victims of the sex trafficking in Cambodia. Susheela is a food scientist and former Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Department of Nutrition, Food Studies & Public Health. She has also taught chefs and conducted cooking classes and demonstrations at Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), International Culinary Center (formerly French Culinary Institute), Chef Central, and Whole Foods Market’s Culinary Center.
